Tetris, one of the most iconic video games in history, was created in 1984 by Soviet software engineer Alexey Pajitnov. Inspired by a pentomino puzzle game he enjoyed as a child, Pajitnov designed Tetris to test spatial reasoning and quick thinking. Its addictive gameplay involves rotating and placing falling tetrominoes, geometric shapes composed of four squares, to form complete horizontal lines, which then disappear. Originally developed on an Electron60 computer in Moscow, the game quickly spread worldwide, becoming a phenomenon on the Game Boy in 1989 and cementing its place in pop culture as the quintessential puzzle game.
